From The Author Of The Alex Hollick Series Comes A Dark Heart-Pounding Thriller With Brilliant Plotting, Continuous Suspense and a Jaw Dropping Finale!

When a murder suspect escapes indictment on a technicality, Agent Leah Hudson is forced to shift her focus to a new task, a cold case. Five years after Gloria Stone disappears, Hudson must piece together the final days of her life, but Gloria was no ordinary girl. Shortly after surviving a brutal gang rape on her twenty-first birthday, the affluent wine heiress vanished, her car abandoned in a supermarket parking lot.
With the help of her onetime mentor, Hudson retraces the steps of an old investigation, determined to succeed where all others have failed. Making her way through a slew of once discounted suspects, she edges closer to a horrifying truth - Gloria wasn’t alone…there are other victims and a misogynistic serial killer continues to lurk in the shadows of the Central Valley, threatening the lives of young women who fit his sick and twisted M.O.
Mourning Gloria brings together the elements of a thriller and a murder-mystery into one bone-chilling tale that examines the darkest depths of human nature.

I wanted to like this. I really tried. But ....so many proof reading mistakes, so many words used incorrectly, so many events that would never happen in the real world.
If someone is missing and you are a drug dealer, why would you go to the FBI? Wouldn't they tell you to contact the local police? I have never heard of having three suspects in one interview room. When did "the clap" become chlamydia. Does the FBI walk up and say, "We're from the white collar crime division"? Really?
Is the author twelve? This is such a childish attempt at a book.
I am surprised by all the five star reviews. Are we reading the same book? I am about halfway thru this, but I think I am going to delete it. The story is going nowhere and I think this is a waste of my time. No way would I bother to read anything else by this author. Oh, yeah. This is book one in a series???

Mourning Gloria A Leah Hudson Thriller Leah Hudson Thrillers Book 1 edition by Andrew Downs Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Morning Gloria is one of the best books I've read lately. It is a police procedural novel with a female FBI agent who is assigned to a five-year-old cold case, involving a missing woman who had reported a gang rape shortly before her disappearance . No one expects Leah to be able to solve the case, least of all, her colleagues at the FBI; in fact they're even placing bets against her . She has been assigned to the case, in the sleepy town of Lodi, California, primarily to keep her out of harms way and the reach of a vicious cartel member, who is the focus of a parallel investigation that is also part of the book. The writing is excellent. The case, the thrilling twisting plot, and the perfect pacing kept me glued to my . This really is an excellent book, and I would give it more stars if I could. I highly recommend it. I myself will be reading more by this writer
I won't write a review but I'll let the author write it for me. Here is the description of what Leah Hudson looks like through the usual mirror-gazing device
"Eyeing a mirror nearby, she looked herself over. Hudson had a unique look, similar to that of a porcelain doll. Shoulder length jet-black hair provided a stark contrast to her milk white skin. Her crystal blue eyes cut like glass. ... Though she had been an agent for nearly five years, she had never forgotten that she was a woman."
OUCH! Ouch! Ouch.
I really wanted to read this book, since the plot seemed to hold some interest. But I couldn't get past the pain of this paragraph about the porcelain doll with her milk white skin ... and crystal blue eyes. At least her eyes weren't green.
Let me begin by stating that the crime genre is usually not my cup of tea. But this novel has me rethinking that. Mourning Gloria has everything—great character development, plenty of twists and turns, and a plot that seemed a bit confusing at times, but in the end, everything comes crashing together and did not disappoint.
I started reading it yesterday afternoon and planned on spreading it out over a few days. That didn't happen. I could not put it down because I was so engrossed in Leah Hudson's world I had to see it through.
Very well done, Mr Downs, kudos. )
An enjoyable mystery, but there are some problems. One such is the female lead character in a book written by a man. She lacks development on the feminine side, and seems at times, almost neuter. Another issue which is more bothersome is poor English construction. Spelling errors are present, and many, many errors in grammar. Confusion of homonyms, errors in case and number, errors with antecedents, and numerous other issues which distract the reader and detract from the experience.

I am an avid reader, and have been a user for years. Unfortunately, many of the books offered for are a mess.

In my view, a good author is someone who loves language. He need not be a William F. Buckley, whose penchant for using the precisely correct word was legendary, but he must be skilled in grammar and spelling. Major authors and serious publishing houses use editors to ensure that no problems find their way into the published release; many authors are new, and cannot afford, or see no need to use, an editor.

Recently I have been a subscriber to BookBub, which is a nice little service which offers daily lists of books at very low prices. Through this service, I have found quite a few very enjoyable reads. And some real stinkers.

I have long believed that inattention to detail would damage the brand, but I had not reckoned on the effects of the public schools. Apparently, very few readers are bothered by such details, or even aware of the problems. And so, our culture declines into semi-literacy.

The problem has become so common now that I felt compelled to write this summary, which I will paste into any review I post where the book suffers from such problems.
I'll give Andrew credit for the screwy psychological pathology underlying the primary set of murders, but the supposed procedural details and the many asides are just weak buttresses trying to support a decently conceived plot into a book length manuscript. Unfortunately, when he couldn't draw out Gloria's story enough to make a book, Andrew threw in a second story with an unrelated set of murders by a crazed drug dealer so he could wrap up with a sort of big bang finale, if only it had made the book better – but it doesn't. Neither does all the personal angst; I couldn't find any character worth my emotional involvement. Add to that some weird use of thesaurus words and a bunch of proofing issues, and the book just withers. I'll give it a 3☆ for the underlying story, but the rest is just draft level fluff. Developing Gloria's story on its own would have been worth the effort, but Mourning Gloria forgot its point.
Started this book but couldn't finish it. I thought the writing was choppy and amateurish. The characters are superficial cliches. Just couldn't buy that these characters could make such obvious mistakes and be at the top of their fields. I can read books with great, well thought out plots or if the style is interesting but not if both are marginal. Too many good books out there to read.
I wanted to like this. I really tried. But ....so many proof reading mistakes, so many words used incorrectly, so many events that would never happen in the real world.
