Maureen was a feisty, self-confident woman, who, at the age of fifty, was determined to change her life. Purchasing a tract of forest, she-with the help of her husband, Steve-cleared the land and built and established an organic farm on Foulweather Bluff, a point of land on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State. Wildly successful, they lived a good life until one day she coughed hard, broke a rib, and then soon learned that that was the least of her medical problems. This compelling story, centered on the last thirty hours of her life, will make you wish that you could have known her.

A touching story of two people who give up the hectic pace of corporate life of a large city to hue out a dream place in a rural setting of the forested Pacific Northwest. The author, a former hard nosed banker and ex Marine, writes with great tenderness of his journey with his wife during the last period of her terminal illness to create her dream organic acreage near Hansville Washington by a place called Foulweather Bluff near the shores of Puget Sound. The authors past history of being a former Marine is evident in his style of writing and colorful dialogue. Their efforts to hew out a space from the timbered land, largely with hand tools and muscle is rewarded with success probably far beyond their early dreams. With tears and laughter I spent an extremely enjoyable experience following the fulfillment of their desire to create a better life and place.Product details

Foulweather Farm is a touching story told through a husband's eyes about the last years, and days, of his wife's life. Love or hate the characters, the recount of the precious time shared between Steve and Maureen is an honest recount of true love and partnership. The story revealed to me the unequivocal love, absolute devotion and humanity of a husband as he recounts his fond memories during the final days of his beloved wife while he tries to grapple with Maureen's inevitable fate.
Anyone who lost a loved one will relate to this book. It is an honest portrait of one women's life and her last days on earth.
This book is beautifully written about the strength of a wife/mother/friend who faced with the loss of her life at a much too early age does it with such grace. We can all learn the importance of accepting the inevitable and deciding how we are going to face the end. I so admire the author's telling of the story as well as his own acceptance of what his wife's last wishes were. The farm, as a third character, was a beautiful backdrop on the seasonal cycle of life. ML. Northrup, SC
